Places I’d Like to Live, no. 2:
An Ornate English Showman’s Wagon
Traveling scenic European countrysides in a beautifully embellished horse-drawn caravan would be the most romantic lifestyle ever. I would wear all of my jewels at all times and read tarot for passers-by. And sell love potions. And play the accordion.
These photographs are from Anguskirk’s wonderful photostream on flickr. He writes;
Vehicles like this began to be used by traveling showmen in the 1820’s and from the 1850’s they were adopted by Romanies (Gypsies).
Simultaneously quaint and decadent, the amount of luxuries wedged into such a compact space is amazing. More history here.
